Steve Berringer
Head Coach
I have been the head baseball coach and working in the Kinesiology department at College of Marin since 2000. Last year, I held the position of Interim Director of Kinesiology and returned to teaching and coaching this fall. I have an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sport Science and a Masterโs degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco.
I believe great doesnโt happen before dedication, determination, and hard work. To be a great coach or a great instructor I believe you need to continue to grow and develop. Self-improvement is vital and something I spend time on each year. Whether it has been going to conventions and listening to top experts in my field or taking classes to learn more I find huge value in learning.
My passion for coaching and teaching has led me to many great opportunities. I have had the opportunity to serve on a non-profit board, become a professional baseball scout, work as an athletic director, and most recently served as the Bay Valley Conference representative for baseball. All these opportunities have helped shape me as the instructor and
Franklin Smith
Assistant Coach
Franklin was born and raised in Marin County. He developed a passion for sports at a young age. For his first two years of high school he attended San Rafael High School. Franklin then moved to Stockton, California and attended Lincoln High School, where he played not only baseball but also football and track and field, earning varsity letters in all three sports.
Continuing his athletic journey, Franklin played football at the College of Marin for a year before transferring to Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. At Southeastern University, he pursued his studies in Human Services while playing baseball.
After his time in Florida, Franklin returned to California and started his coaching career. He spent his first five seasons coaching at San Rafael High School, where he made a significant impact on the team and helped develop young athletes.
A recent addition to the College of Marin Coaching Staff as their Catching Coach, Franklin is in his fifth season as the assistant varsity coach and the catching coach at Marin Catholic. Franklin's commitment to the sport extends beyond his coaching roles, as he also runs The Catchers Farm, a training program that caters to athletes across The Bay Area.
