- Let your parents decide when its OK for your to start using a knife and then use a knife or sharp tool with the OK or supervision of an adult
- When carrying a knife, hold the blade point down, at your side and walk, never run
- If you drop a knife, don't try and catch it
- hold the knife firmly by the handle and keep finders tucked under and away from the blade when cutting
- Use a solid cutting board that won't move. Don't cut directly on the counter
- Wash sharp tools separately. Don't stack them with other dirty dishes because you might forget they are there and grab one by mistake
